The Soap-bubbles

"The Soap-bubbles" (1878) is a study in blue. Émile Reynaud used varying shades of the same colour to differentiate between the dress of the young woman, the azure skyline and the transparent soap bubbles. The resulting visual harmony produces a pleasing drawing. In terms of animation, however, the range of movement is limited, making the strip less engaging for the new medium. This short clearly demonstrates that the close relationship between storytelling content, artistic craftsmanship and entertainment value is essential in evaluating the overall quality of motion pictures. Ultimately, this work is useful to consider when seeking to understand the basics of animation, but it is by no means unmissable.
